Now we can all remember the gunpowder plot! Just print out my 5 minute Guy Fawkes (http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/9630/guyfawkesdaysu9.jpg) and burn him! While you do, be sure to recite the famous ryhme:
Remember, remember, the 5th of November
The Gunpowder Treason and plot ;
I know of no reason why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes,
'Twas his intent.
To blow up the King and the Parliament.
Three score barrels of powder below.
Poor old England to overthrow.
By God's providence he was catch'd,
With a dark lantern and burning match
Holloa boys, Holloa boys, let the bells ring
Holloa boys, Holloa boys, God save the King!
Hip hip Hoorah !
Hip hip Hoorah !
A penny loaf to feed ol'Pope,
A farthing cheese to choke him.
A pint of beer to rinse it down,
A faggot of sticks to burn him.
Burn him in a tub of tar,'
Burn him like a blazing star.
Burn his body from his head,
Then we'll say: ol'Pope is dead.

This was more aimed towards the people celebrating the fifth on Urban Dead, but I figured it would be fun to share with everyone. No need to be a dick. Oh wait, you're echoes, so you can't help it, can you?
Just kidding echoes, but seriously, lighten up, will you?

I think you're all missing the point of this fantastic day. Perhaps you would understand if I called it by it's OTHER name, Cracker Night.
Come on people, it's an excuse to set off fireworks and burn an effigy. A big straw man in a hat and a mask. Plus the fireworks, the cheap, poorly made, extremely dangerous fireworks. What's not to love about this night?

I read the comic before the movie was even announced. It was pretty much the only comic book I've thoroughly enjoyed. The movie was awesome as well.
Calling people sheep over this seems unfair to me. The movie expresses feelings that many people agree with: A distaste for governments that go too far with their power. It's like calling someone a sheep for making an Orwellian reference. I mean, I know that pretty much anyone who posts about this stuff isn't politically active or informed and is just doing it because it's fun, but your answer right there: it's fun. No one is thinking deeply about this, it's just a good movie with a good message and it's fun to play along and let that inner rebellion out.
I'm not trying to pick a fight or anything, but those are my (only partially thought out) 2 pence. =)
EDIT: To clarify, I'm not talking about treating this as a holiday or doing the 'burn Guy Fawkes" thing, but rather celebrating the awesomeness of the movie. Perhaps I'm missing the point of the thread. I'm not sure if it was made as an actual tribute to Guy Fawkes or just a way to make praise of the movie.

What, I enjoy the movie. A lot.
Well, in all fairness it did kick near legendary amounts of ass.
As for Guy Fawkes, it's said that he was the only man ever to enter Parliment with honest intentions.

I'm calling people sheep because most are merely following a fad. Brought on by a damned movie. A really really good movie, but a movie none the less.
I guarantee if V never came out atleast half of you would have no clue what this was about. And even though I know nobody will admit it, half of you are celebrating just to fit in.
Thus, I call them sheep. Not saying everyone is. Just those I mentioned.

And even though I know nobody will admit it, half of you are celebrating just to fit in.
The other half consisting of people who are incurable pyromaniacs willing to take any excuse to play with fire.
Seriously people, how many other days give you a reason to burn a straw man in a funny hat?

Baaaaaaaah. Honestly I don't really care about the holiday. I'll just celebrate the movie cause I love it so. It's one of those movies I'll be watching for a while to come.

You're absolutely right. I wouldn't have known had the movie never come out, but I'm glad that I did. In fact, I watched the movie right before I made this thread. I didn't make this to fit in or be cool or anything, just to celebrate the kickass movie, and the peoples right to revolt against opressive governments, and for fun. Since the 5th is now over, this should probably be dumped into the litterbox now.

Does anyone actually call it Guy Fawkes day/night? I call it Bonfire Night, along with everyone else I know, and the TV.
