View Full Version : Parents Nearly Trade Kids for PS3

It seems people will do anything to get a PlayStation 3 this holiday season. A Minnesota radio host announced over the radio that if parents were willing to turn their children over to the station for 24 hours, they would give them a new PS3.

The joke soon turned sour when it became apparent that a majority of the callers were serious about the trade.

"We got more calls than we could handle," said Dave Ryan, "They were lined up willing to turn their kids over to strangers for a freakin' PlayStation."

Children offered included a one week and two day old baby. One caller named Katie attempted to get a PS3 by offering her 1 month old up for a 3 day period. When informed it was a hoax, she responded in disbelief.

Dave Ryan went onto say in an article,"But I didn't want them to feel too badly. I said, 'Listen you're not the only one who fell for this'. But at the same time, think about it, these are your kids, these are the most precious responsibility you'll ever have in your entire life. Be careful with your babies.' "

It's not as crazy as it sounds. Think about it: they give their 10 year old kid who wants a PS3 and knows what's going on to the station for a day. They then come back the next day and the kid gets a PS3.

You know, this pretty much goes without saying, but anybody who'd jump at the chance to trade their child for an electronic device that's going to become obsolete in 4 years doesn't deserve to be a parent. Heck, they probably shouldn't even be reproducing in the first place.

Kids are needy and smell funny.

The PS3 has almost no games and is freezing up like hell.

... I honestly don't know who would end up getting ripped off on this deal, the station or the parents.

Mog
12-06-2006, 08:39 PM
Well just think about it, you let the radio station take care of your kid for a day and you get to play a PS3 all day with no kids around to bug the shit out of you.

It's win/win!

In their defense kids are cheaper and easier to get. This must have seemed like a bargain.

And the kids were young, it's not like they've had taht much time to get emotionally attached. And if you've got a kid you have no time or money to play games, so this is really killing two birds with one stone.

Wolf Pup TK
12-07-2006, 05:42 AM
If I heard about that offer, I'd assume that they had some kind of tour/daycare for the kids and at least call to check it out. I mean, I would never suspect a public radio station to pull some huge kid-pwning scam.

Oh well. ^^;

Bingo! This forum is not the only place in the universe where people have a sense of irony or fun. Let my five year old hang out at a radio station for 24 hours for a PS3? As in he gets baby-sat, fed, etc. and then I get a console? Or let's say its my high school kid and he is interested in working for radio when he gets older? Why the fuck not let him live his dream for a day?

I agree with the reasonable posts (the ones saying "hey, they're offering to show a kid how a radio station works for a day, and they give you a PS3 for it"). Honestly, it's not like they'd be dumping the kids on them and greedily taking the PS3 for it, the kids might actually want to do it. I'd want to, it sounds fun.

I heard this on a radio station here back when it was CURRENT

But seriously, the 'parents' weren't really smart at all. I mean, maybe a 6 month baby or something. Why would you turn in a 1 month old baby when it still has to breast-feed?! That's like starving!(though i know nothing about babies so i may be wrong about that)

For some reason, finding out about the stupid things people do just makes my day better =D
