man, when I was a little kid living in Jersey, I could get a Spider Man comic every month from the local store for about $5 maximum. Now, all I ever see is manga (Fine for those who like it, not my taste), and overpriced book-style comics. I'm into classic comics like X-Men, Spider Man (especially Ultimate), and an occasional Dark Horse comic like Hellboy (Second favorite, next to USM). Now, it just seems that all I see are the super-violent, gut-blowing Heavy Metal ripoffs, and manga. I swear, if I find some kind of comic convention in PA, I'm gonna start saving my paychecks and just splurge.

Okay, being in New Jersey right now, I can safely say that there are two comic shops between where I am now (Wayne) and my house (Stanhope. It's by Sparta and Hopatcong). Now, in those comic shops, the amount of traditional comics far outweigh the manga and the 'nutso' comics. Manga I usually see in the back of Barnes and Noble over by the "For Dummies" section.

what falls in the "nutso" category?

Well, I live in Pennsyltuckey (Used to live in Wharton, NJ) now, and all we have is a B. Dalton, where the B. stands for "HOLY SHIT, I HAVE A GOOD IDEA, WE'LL SELL PAPERBACKS FOR $20!", and all they have is what I just talked about.

I get a nice NICE Percentage off my stuff. Close friends with the guy who owns the comic book store near me. Which is awesome.

Right... and I have about 5 comic book stores within 20 miles of my house, all of which barely carry Manga at all... whereas I can go to a Waldenbooks and they have an entire wall dedicated to them now...

Surprisingly enough, the same Comic book store I go to has a nice collection of Manga. No more going to chapters.

my place is like 1/3 manga, 1/3 comics and 1/3 graphics, safe to say, i dont really got any complaints, they also stock a stack of merch, like figures, dvds, and toys/tshirts/jewellery/apparel.

And its the only comic shop for MILES!

When I saw this thread I was reminded of the "WEEK AFTER WEEK I AM DISAPPOINTED!"
But gladly that is not the case.

I know how he feels, there are barely any comic shops here. I've found like two, and they're miles away from my house. I cried.

I've not seen one Manga over here. Everywhere I go I see Marvel and DC comics, whether it be the newsagent's or the local supermarket.

the only really good comic shop is so far far away from me. the others are alright, but the closest one has had me waiting for "Scott Pilgrim" for about three weeks now. I'M ANGRY.

Now newspaper comics, that's an entirely different story. Reading the Sunday comics these days feels like a Sarlacc Pit manifested itself from pure suck right in the center of my brain.

Edit: And then we get into webcomics. Granted, I'm trying to squeeze blood from a stone here, BUT HOLY CHRIST CHIPS! There are a few gems out there, I know, but most of them just outright suck. The ones that try to have a plot just end up with more loose ends and holes than a bondage party, and generally just give me a headache, (I'm looking at you, megatokyo.) Then there are the elitist webcomics that rely on geek humor that nobody gets except a 34 year old pimple covered man named Ned who lives in his mothers basement and only speaks binary and elvish. I would rather have a large burly man named Bubba Joe Bob remove my skull via my asshole than read these. (User friendly, you are not funny. You are not funny now, you were not funny in the past, you will never be funny, and I'm willing to bet that if I traveled back in time and gave you lessons from Andy fucking Kaufman you would still not be funny.) And on a final note, comics that go on forever. Jesus fuck, after 300 comics, just end it, right there. I don't care if you're still funny, end it NOW. You'll be saving us both a lot of trouble. (*cough*8bittheaterbobandgeorge*cough*)

Wow, that went on longer than I planned.

I would live in a cave just so I could avoid the Family Circus. If any of you have ever read The Family Circus, and laughed, give me your address, so I can put you out of your fucking misery.

Hmm, I don't know 'bout everyone else, but I wish i could get my hands on the old sonic comix. the new ones are ok, but they lack that nice papery feel, similar to toilet paper (Flushes). Actualy, i never got ta read em. The only comix 'round here are those suck Teen titans comix(Leave japanese manga to the japanese, u fucktarded Americans!!! )and other comix i've never heard of. On the plus side, they do sell old DC Comix, and the simpsons as well. Shonen Jump is the only manga i've ever heard of.

There was a nifty comic book store in our town a while back. I have that place to thank for my love of Bone. (Get your mind out of the gutter. Yeah, you.)

Unfortunately, it was replaced with a matress outlet

The only newspaper comic that made laugh (and hysterically, I might add) was The Far Side. Even after reading the same comic over and over, I can still laugh at it.

Of course, the Far Side is the best comic EVER! I forgot Bizarro, though, that's one that's around, now, too. It's good. And Foxtrot, Luann, and Zits all have their moments, as do Boondocks, and that one political one I can't remember the name of. Those are all pretty good. But when you look at the newspaper as a whole? Shit. Kind of like America: Hey, these groups of people are pretty cool, BUT THE MAJORITY :wtf: ?? DEAR GOD I'M MOVING TO CANADA!!!!
