To thow off some people this is a thread for only those who have seen anime in Japanese and English. for the rest of you I am running a bit of a pole to prove to a freind that anime is best in the original language. Oppinions (other than "I like Japanese/English, log out") are welcome and people who give examples will get a lolly-pop. All oppinions are welcome but Inuyaasha and Goku humpers will treated with cold dissaproval. happy voteing!

I usually prefer the dubbed versions, it means less reading, unless one or more of the voices are really grating and/or unlistenable. I won't go into detail because I'm sure you all have a personal experience with a badly dubbed anime.

i personally prefer the original japanese voice actors. though reading subtitles can be annyoing, I (nearly) always go with the originals. mostly because the japanese voices usually fit the character better than the english VA's

I'll watch either. If the dub is good, I'll watch it. Usually when I watch the Japanese version it's because of poor voice acting. Sometimes they are out of character (a 15 year old that sounds like a 30 year old? no thanks) or if their voice grates on my nerves (usually when an adult tries to play a young girl).

I watch the original Japanese with English subtitles. Mainly because, already stated, that the Japanese voices fit with the character, and the English voice overs just kill everything.

The guy who did the voice for the Japanese AC Sephiroth = Genuinely menacing without seeming retarded.
I prefer that.

The only anime i've found that i like the english actors over the original japanese ones was Full Metal Alchemist. Other than that, i mostly go for dubbed.

Ding ding.

If the dub is good, I watch the dub. If the dub sucks, I watch it subtitled.

And if no dub is available, well. The answer is obvious.

I'l tend to watch my shows dubbed, simply because we should support the industry so they can get money to hire better actors pretty much. That and it makes it easier to pay attention to what I'm watching while I'm doing other things

I like to watch what I can in Japanese, like Bleach, and many other fansubed animes. When it comes to Cowboy Bebop however, I prefer the English voices.

I just dont like the high pitched and annoying voices that make guy characters sound like little girls. Other then that if they fit the character perfectly then there fine.

Not meaning to be mean or anything but, American*

And it would be Japanese vs. English voice actors. *nod nod* Sorry, that was bothering me.

Now with that out of the way, Due to my time spent here in Japan, I normally lead toward Japanese voice acting in anime since its...normally the original, subs not required. But in truth, if I first experience an anime in the English dubbed version, I tend to stick to that version for that anime.

Usually, I flip between SUB and DUB when I watch a series, and find the one i like better.

I personally don't care which is more "proper" to watch. Stop trying to force your opinion on your friend, dude.

Well, thank you all for voteing, so far the count has been mainly Japanese or a blend of Japanese and English. Thank you all for you oppinions though only a few of you get lolly...sorry Myoti. Any way, if you can find any more people wishing to give their oppinion on this, please let them know. I appreceate all of your oppinions, and I will try to be less pushy Azrael. You will here more from me once I have something else about anime to bitch about. Thank you again.

I usually try to watch the subs, mainly because it helps with my Jap class. The only anime i really prefer in English is Cowboy Bebop. Full Metal and Ghost in the Shell are good in english, but better in Japanese. And then theres Onepiece.... *shudder*. Who would do such a cruel thing?

And ive seen FFVII AV in Japanese, and it rocked, but does any one know if the english version (if any) was any good? Ill probably like it better in Jap anyway, i was just currious. ........ Could you imagine if 4KIDS bought the right to that? If that wouldent give you nightmares what would?

Ya know, you really can't compare VAs unless you understand both languages - reason is, most people just like Japanese VAs simply because it's the native language for the show so the voices fit the mouth movement much better, or because it's more authentic/uncut. Thus, a Japanese VA can be horrible and yet preferred simply because s/he's speaking Japanese.

I really have no objections to Japanese voice acting, though there are times where I feel that the variations in voice gets a little too repetitive. What I like about English is that with English, I'm able to discern certain accents and other things that add a bit more to the character than just the voice. That's the primary reason why I prefer the dubbed version of Chrono Crusade, because no matter how hard they try, Japanese just can't mimc a good European accent.

i'm probably just biased twordes the language i speak, (plus i hate to read) (naturally i suck at school) but i prefer to hear it in english. it sounds like i'm going against the japanese, but, SURPRISE! i don't mind them, but i...um...i just like it better. yes. thats. it. rant over.

Dubbed for me because I prefer to watch the anime rather than read it. I watch subs now and then but its annoying to read then look up real quick to catch the scene. Also like winters said its easier to differentiate different accents and other stuff.

yeah... i prefer original language...

to me it seems that the conversations is alive with more emotion in Japenese...

there are a few exceptions, but most of the time, dialogue with a dubbed series seems as if it was ripped out of the heart of some poor midday soap opera.

[yeah, this is my first post here on the forums... i'll try to find my way to an intro thread now....]

The original language hurts my head and honestly I dont see the point.

Then again there are some shows that are just terrible with the dubs, so if they heve dubs I'll wach that only when I have to I will watch the original.

the reason I perfere japanese is, though I don't speak much of it, when I encounter a new anime or new epesode of an old favorite; I can understand it even without reading the subtitles. I have this ability with any language, though I'm best with japanese. this is probably some kind of instinct that everyone has but I have tapped.

for those of you who don't like to watch the Subs, get an open mind about it.I can stand reading English so why can't you? You read english every day so why not read it to understand an anime? Also, the point of not having European accents is because it is nigh on impossible to speak Japanese without haveing a slightly Japanese accent.

I do realize that it is hard to read some anime's subtitles because they move to fast (I have had this problem with Ruroni Kenshin), read a bit more to improve your WPS (words per second). I don't wish to critisize (though I just have, many times) but Japanese holds a certan beauty for me, this is why I prefer Japanese. English holds no such beauty.

For those of you who I have just offended, I am sorry and you are free to through your lollypops at me. everyone is entitled to their own oppinion and this is mine. for those of you that are offended, I will be in Washington this weekend. So any of you wishing to complain, wait untill monday if you want a quick response.

All in all ti depends my school of thought is this

Usualy I won't go out of my wat to watch it subbed becasue 90% of the time I don't want to read while I'm trying to go to sleep, or when I'm only partialy paying attention.

as far as prefrence realy I could care less iether way like it was said before its all the voice actors that they get. japanese or english voice actors can be superb or just flat suck.

in short I am fine to watch iether unless the voice actor grates on my brain like a fish on a chalk board :yikes:

I prefer the Japenese voice actors. I don't know what it is, but I always think the Japenese voice actors are way better than the English voice actors. The only exception is InuYasha, otherwise in my case I say all the dubbed versions suck.

I actually have to say i liked the english dubbed version of FMA better than the original japanese voices. i just feel they fit the characters more. I mean, Al still sounds annoying, like any 10 year old XD, but Ed's voice just seems to fit him better in the english eps.

Fullmetal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell, both Stand Alone Complex series's and the movies, IGPX (although that's dubbed by Toonami, since it's their show), Bo-BoBo, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Trigun, and Naruto are pretty good, plus quite a few more. Hell, most dubs since 2003 have been getting steadily better and better.

I have to agree. I would usually watch the english dubs, except for some really crappy ones. Samurai Champloo. I hate the English voices there.

no... I'm not allowed to watch anime on tv so I have to download off the internet... I haven't been able to find that one as of yet..
